Haitian Memorial at Maple Grove Cemetery

The natural disaster of the Haitian Earthquake of January 12th, 2010 caused an estimated 230,000 deaths.  Many of the dead were never found or buried in common mass graves without appropriate individualized memorialization.  Maple Grove Cemetery in Kew Gardens, Queens, NY would like to establish a memorial especially for Haitian Queens families whose lost relatives did not receive a proper burial.  As a way to honor and pay tribute to those lost, Maple Grove Cemetery would like to give those Queens Haitian families a local location to visit, to remember and to celebrate their loved ones.  The exact location in the cemetery and material for the permanent memorial will be determined and designed based on the number of names, information submitted to Maple Grove and collaboration with a community committee. To share the name and a brief bio or tribute to the uniqueness of a lost loved one who has not been memorialized elsewhere, please fill out the information form on our website, www.maplegrovecenter.org  or  complete the attached form and submit it to Haitian Memorial, Maple Grove Cemetery, P.O. Box 150086, Kew Gardens, NY 11415.  For more information or to assist our committee call 718.709.0390
